
Creative Solutions in the Outdoor Recreation Industry
My work at Recreational Equipment, Incorporated. 2022-2023

I was a Green Vest at R.E.I. from 2022-2023, working as a Sales Lead in the Softgoods department where I helped lead a team that transformed the department into a fun, shoppable, and beautiful department that saw increased sales and great customer and corporate feedback. I developed creative solutions to some of the opportunities in the department such as organization, product knowledge, and visual merchandising training. I was also nominated for an Anderson Award, a peer nominated award that is one of the most prestigious awards in the company.

Details Matter
I collaborated with the warehouse lead
to use old camping gear as
planters. I planted easy-to-care-for
plants in them and displayed
them throughout the department.
There was even a plant in a
hiking boot in the footwear department!

I coordinated several major department swaps. I used sales metrics, employee/manager feedback, inventory, and customer shopping trends to present my plans to management. I then teamed with my direct manager to schedule a team to implement the changes. I was able to increase sales in several of the departments based on these changes.

Organizing categories and designing a flow to the fixtures to guide customers was imperative to making the salesfloor appear purposeful and shoppable.

Working with the Visual Manager, we analyzed sales to understand what was working and what needed to find a new home to better showcase it.

Using the company provided floorsets, we trained the team and developed a culture that understands the importance of visual merchandising.
